Chondrogenic potential of periosteum-derived cells

The anatomical origin of periosteum-derived cells is crucial for their chondrogenic potential. Origin-related chondrogenic differentiation aligns with anatomical site-specific endogenous bone healing mechanism. Craniofacial bone repair mainly occurs through intramembranous ossification, while appendicular bone healing predominantly relies on endochondral ossification. These findings underline the importance of rational periosteal source selection.
